Rotary
Club of Lyme Regis
We are a club of 30 or so
non-sectarian, non-religious, non-political, business and professional
people who meet once a week to have lunch, to
cultivate fellowship and to discuss and plan how we might serve the
local, national and world communities.
|
|
We meet on Mondays
at the
Alexandra Hotel in
Lyme Regis,
at 12.30 for 13.00.
The first Monday in the month we usually meet
in the evening at another venue with our partners - check with the
secretary. We do not meet on public holidays.
We were founded on 1st December 1950,
as a "daughter" of the Bridport club. 2000 was thus our 50th anniversary
year!
Our
organisation is based on the Rotary International model which is
consistent at national, district and local levels.

Invitation!
Visiting Rotarians and their partners are very
welcome to our meetings.
Normally you can just turn up at the Alexandra
Hotel at about 12.30 on a Monday (unless it is a Public Holiday) and introduce yourself to someone
sporting a Rotary pin in the bar!
However, we do sometimes change our routine so it
is probably best to check by
phoning our Secretary 01297
443170
beforehand. or e-mail

THE SECOND
ROTARY CHARITY GOLF DAY AT LYME REGIS GOLF CLUB.
On Tuesday 20th
May at Lyme Regis Golf Club the second running of the Rotary Charity Golf
Day took place.
Under clear blue
skies for the second year running Axminster and Lyme Regis Rotary Clubs
combined to put on a special day for golfers from around the country. With
31 teams of four from places as far apart as Torbay, Barnstable, Burnham
Beeches and Redditch taking part in an action packed day of golfing. Prizes
were awarded for various acts of golfing prowess, including a putting
competition won by Mike Timmins from Torbay, nearest the pin in two shots on
the long par 6th won by Richard Edgehill, longest drive on the
uphill 16th won by George Sadowsky and several nearest the pin
drives on the par threes.
The overall winners
on the day with 98 points, the best two scores counted from a fourball, were
a team of men from Lyme Regis Golf Club. Past Captain Bob Rivers, Rob
Winterbourne, David Fidge and Vernon Vear. Their prizes were presented by
the President’s of Axminster and Lyme Regis Rotary Clubs, Bill Taylor from
Lyme and Barrie Castle from Axminster.
Thanks are due in no
small part to the Main Sponsor, Axminster Power Tools and the Major Sponsor,
South West Water. With eighteen other Sponsors from the East Devon and West
Dorset areas helping by sponsoring a hole each the profit on the day is
expected to be in the region of £4000.00. about the same as last year. This
will be divided equally between the two Rotary Clubs and will be used to
further their Charity work.
Special thanks from
the organizers go to the Lyme Regis Golf Club for the help and assistance
from all their staff, from the Office, Pro Shop, catering and waiting staff
and the green keepers, without whom the day would not have been possible. |

Individuals
Every Club member should either be a
Club Officer or be a member of a Club Committee
What we do: The object of Rotary can be summed up as
"Service
through Fellowship"
We help individuals and organisations locally and
internationally.
Sometimes this is with money, sometimes with practical help.
Some examples are:
- organising outings for disadvantaged children
and the elderly;
- installing a new gate for a local school;
- filling emergency boxes for international
disasters;
- giving money for a local playing field.
To help do these we also have to
raise money. Some of this comes from members directly, but most of it
involves organising events to get money from those who attend.
Another important source of help is
that RIBI and Rotary International in turn will match what we raise, so
that the charity can actually receive four times the amount.
A regular activity every Christmas
time is a street collection, including carols around the tree, which is
usually in aid of a regional children's charity. |
